Add Your Information to the Do Not Call Registry
Thank goodness for the National Do-Not-Call Registry. This national treasure has enabled ordinary people to protect their phone numbers from pesky sales calls and telemarketers. While we know that salespeople are simply trying to make a living, we are all guilty of valuing our own personal privacy more than we value their vocation
If you are not let enrolled in the Do-Not-Call registry, it is time to jump on board with the rest of the anti-telemarketing population. No matter what you have heard, the Do-Not-Call registry is nothing but a blessing; indeed, it is free, easy, and takes only a few seconds to register. Here are some facts about the National Do-Not-Call Registry.
How It Works
The National Do-Not-Call Registry is a master list of American citizens who would prefer to not receive sales calls. To enroll, all you need to do is visit http://www.donotcall.gov/. From there, you will be instructed to enter in your phone number and e-mail address. That is all the information that you need to input, and the e-mail address is utilized to simply verify your phone number before it is added. The National Registry requires nothing more. We have not yet heard of any scammers posing as a Do-Not-Call registry to steal victims' information, but we certainly would not put it past them
State Lists
Many states have their own Do-Not-Call Registry. For example, New York's Do-Not-Call program is very popular among New York State residents. However, these services were put into place before a national system was established. Subsequently, these state programs will most likely be obsolete very soon.
Exceptions to Every Rule
There are always exceptions to the rule. Non-profit organizations are still permitted to call you even if you join a Do-Not-Call registry. Also, a business with whom you have had prior relations is allowed to call you up to 18 months after your last sale or transaction.
However, most will gladly oblige should you ask to be taken off of their list, as they are required to stop calling by law if you specifically asked to be placed on their "do not call" list. Keep in mind that takes four weeks for your phone number to be full registered. Thus, you may still receive pesky phone calls for a full month after you have added your name to the Do-Not-Call list.
As you can see, registering on the Federal Do-Not-Call Registry is a quite painless process. In just a minute or so, you can put an end to annoying sales calls...for good. Just remember that not all of your new phone numbers will be automatically added to the list. Thus, you need to register each and every new phone number you obtain, and be sure to include a proper e-mail address for verification purposes.
