Unsolicited Caller of the Week
Another week brings forth another obnoxious telemarketing firm that simply won't give consumers their privacy and peace. This week's biggest repeat offender is the phone number (865) 497 - 2733. Thanks to a little sleuthing, we have been able to discover some interesting facts about this intrusive caller.
The Problem with the Phone Offender
This pesky telemarketing firm is ignoring the limitations given to them by the Federal Do-Not-Call Registry. Furthermore, they are ignoring the requests of people who would like to be removed from their call list. Their purported product is an automobile warranty service, but there is little to no chance that they offer a genuine quality service to their "customers." (For the record, never purchase a warranty for any product unless it is through the manufacturer with whom you originally did business.)
The Suspect
Some citizens who are working towards a lawsuit have allegedly identified this number as belonging to Vehicle Serves, Inc. However, there is also reason to believe that this number could belong to a company called Dealers Warranty. There is also the possibility that these companies are actually one in the same, and they are simply operating under numerous titles.
The Behavior
Identifying behavior of this intrusive telemarketer includes non-stop calls at all hours of the day. Furthermore, should you chose to do "business" with this company, you will find yourself extremely disappointed. While they purportedly offer vehicle warranties for only $25.00, one unfortunate victim found themselves losing over $300.00 to this bogus outfit. This company also put the victim through the ringer when he requested to opt out of their service, telling him that he would automatically be charged a ten percent cancellation fee that somehow amounted to over $200.00. Furthermore, this scam shop is apparently operating under hundreds of different spoofed phone numbers, all from a plethora of area codes.
"Vehicle Services" could not be reached for comment, mainly because their number is apparently out of service. However, that does not mean that they aren't still pestering their victims. They are operating with "spoofed numbers," which are numbers that are only capable of making outgoing calls. However, a little further investigation allowed us to find an incoming phone number for "Dealers Warranty" (800-436-3185). While the number is indeed still in service, we sat on hold for twenty minutes before finally giving up. If only this scam company's victims had that sort of perseverance.
The Conclusion
Remember, above all else, never purchase any product or service from one of these scammers. It is also important that you never give them any personal information, not even your car's VIN number. Chances are that once you get lured into the scam, you will only come to your senses after it is far too late.
