Phone Scams and Phishing
Unfortunately, "phishing" in today’s technological age does not refer to a leisurely trip to the lake. Rather, it refers to the fraudulent act of attempting to acquire sensitive information such as account logins, bank account information, and credit card numbers. This kind of “phishing” is a common practice among phone scammers pretending to be harmless telemarketers.
These days, cell phone users are noticing strange and uninvited scam texts that have no return number to report, but rather a website URL. To avoid falling victim to these fraudulent schemes it is important to familiarize yourself with the profile of a typical phishing scam. If the scammer includes a return number, learn how to utilize reverse phone lookup systems to discover their identity and report them. Plenty of law enforcement bureaus have created teams whose sole purpose is to identify and capture scammers. Thus, if you can identify the scammer and report them to the appropriate agency, certainly do so. You may be protecting a lot of innocent people in the process.
